Not having this album in your discography is truly a musical shame.
The first album by the great New Trolls, pioneers of Italian prog. who, in this highly valuable forefather, redefine the "classic" line pursued until then by Italian singer-songwriters.
The school is that of Genoa, and the touch—or rather, the stamp—of the illustrious Master De André is quite evident.
It's practically a De André album set to music and sung by the New Trolls.
So, let's put the CD in the player and let ourselves be lulled by the first song, "Ho Veduto", a mental journey through the beauties of the world; and during the exposition of the poetry (because it is poetry), closing your eyes really seems to show those places that Nico di Palo describes so dreamily and emotionally. A masterpiece, synonymous with beauty. This is where today's great bands (like Afterhours) have taken their inspiration.
"Vorrei comprare una strada" is simply wonderful. "...vorrei comprare una strada nel centro di nuova York," the American dream. You could buy anything in America: video games, venues, clothes, but not him; he wants a street, trodden by people and crowded with poetic verses. It almost recalls Sting of "Englishman in New York"... 20 years earlier.
"Signore, io sono Irish" the true masterpiece, the perfect song. It starts slowly, mournfully, practically a prayer. In the chorus, however, the prayer becomes a curse, and a dirty (and slightly out-of-tune) guitar provides the perfect accompaniment. Here, De André is more than a presence. Citations recalling battles, loves, nostalgias. You listen to and re-listen to this piece, never tiring of it.
"Andrò Ancora" closes the album; it's practically the same musical structure as "ho veduto" but the latter talks about past journeys, the other instead is directed towards the future, with a text as hopeful as it is utopian.
The other songs on the album are also pearls, albeit somewhat overshadowed by the beauty of the four previously described songs, though they still remain of superior lyrical and musical quality compared to most pieces heard in those years.
In short, a fundamental album that lasts only 29.00 minutes but has forcefully entered the history of Italian music.
Listen to it, and you will be dazzled by a poetic light difficult to forget. And finally, the cover is splendid too, a sad clown that best describes the content of the album.
