New Race was a short-lived 1981 supergroup that brought together members of Radio Birdman (Rob Younger, Deniz Tek, Warwick Gilbert) with Ron Asheton (The Stooges) and Dennis Thompson (MC5), documented on live albums such as 'The First And The Last' and 'The First To Pay...'.

Formed for an Australian tour in 1981. Line-up included Rob Younger (Radio Birdman vocalist), Deniz Tek (Radio Birdman guitarist, and a medical doctor), Warwick Gilbert (Radio Birdman bassist), Ron Asheton (Stooges guitarist) and Dennis Thompson (MC5 drummer). Live recordings from that tour were issued as 'The First And The Last' and later related releases; reviews describe the group's sound as a concentrated Detroit/proto-punk attack.

New Race is a short-lived 1981 supergroup combining members of Radio Birdman with Ron Asheton (The Stooges) and Dennis Thompson (MC5). Reviews celebrate their energetic live recordings — chiefly 'The First And The Last' and 'The First To Pay...' — as a pure distillation of the Detroit proto-punk spirit.

For:Fans of proto-punk, Detroit rock (The Stooges, MC5), Radio Birdman followers, and listeners of raw live rock recordings.

Supergroup if ever there was one, the New Race.

The concert takes off with some Radio Birdman tracks and reaches its peak with "I'm Loose" and "T.V. Eye" by the Stooges and here Younger does his best (not succeeding) to not make people miss Iggy.
