An album very different from all other works by Nevermore, this "Enemies of Reality," which continues the path set by the previous masterpiece "Dead Heart in a Dead World," further intensifying its sound.
The tracks included are all of the highest level: the initial triptych "Enemies of Reality-Ambivalent-Never Purify" relentlessly assaults the listener, with accelerations, impossible rhythms, and evocative choruses painted by Dane's unmistakable voice.
A moment of respite is granted by the ballad "Tomorrow Turned into Yesterday," but the following "I, Voyager" is quick to hit hard again, with its dizzying tempo changes and increasingly delirious and melancholic vocal parts.
Also hitting hard is "Create the Infinite," with its schizophrenic structure, while "Who Decides" encloses dreamy guitar arpeggios between a massacre of an intro and outro, serving as a backdrop to one of the most beautiful lyrics on the album. "Noumenon" is just the prelude to the final blow: the majestic "Seed Awakening," a true creative pinnacle of a magnificent and unforgettable album.
Yet another success, then, for this band, which has truly produced a masterpiece with every album without ever repeating itself or resorting to the banal. The remastered version by Andy Sneap (who worked on the previous album) will make this little gem appreciate even by the discerning (poor them!!!) who did not appreciate the original "dirty" production by Kelly Grey. All that remains is for me to thank Dane and company once again for all the emotions they manage to convey to me every time through their music and words... Never stop dreaming!
This is the heaviest album the group has ever conceived, accompanied by the raw (or mediocre?) production of the good Kelly Gray.
Nevermore has made a great album, always in continuous search for that elusive ingredient that (damn it) always slips through their fingers.
