LA RECENSIONE

What better title to describe the current situation in Italy than “Same Old Shit”? Words that seem to go against the grain compared to those who – from above – see signs of recovery, without realizing what is happening in real life. Everyday life and street life have always been dear themes to the punk-rock movement, and it is precisely from this style that the NeverAlone take shape, active since 2009 and with a debut album already under their belt.

“Same Old Shit” is a production that reflects the maturity of its creators, musicians who spent their adolescence devouring what was popular in the '80s/'90s, reaching today with such a wide range of experience that makes them confident and effective. The strengths of this album are essentially two: quality and variety. Not insignificant things these days, and that's indeed the case. The former is evident from the attention to detail in the sound structure of each song, the melodies are well-balanced, as are the vocal parts which – in their way – characterize the entire work, alternating between moments filled with pathos and more hopeful ones. On the other hand, it could only be so given the social and personal commitment placed by Our Heroes in the lyrics, never obvious and careful to communicate the message in the right way.

As mentioned earlier, another point in favor of NeverAlone is the variety of the offering; within the album, there is space for scenarios typical of old-school punk-rock, what was introduced by the Fat Wreck bands of the mid-'90s, and even Californian melodic hardcore, all without ever confusing the listener. A result achieved thanks to experience and passion for the proposed genre, no doubt. A pleasant surprise for yours truly and hopefully also for those who love to engage with noteworthy alternative productions.
