At the end of the celebrations for the seven hundred years since the death of the great Poet, Raidue offers us this beautiful documentary titled "Dante: the dream of a free Italy."

The program consists of numerous contributions from professors around the world, who explain the life and thought of the great Florentine and are interspersed with scenic reconstructions of the events in which Dante was a protagonist.

The focus, however, seems to have been placed more on the disputes between the King of France, Philip Augustus, and Pope Boniface VIII, while the figure of the great Poet remains somewhat in the background.

The program remains captivating, thanks to the skill of the professors involved and the attention to costumes in the historical reconstructions.

In conclusion, however, a fascinating documentary on a figure that we should all learn to know well, for his political, literary, and human commitment; and hopefully, this is just the first of a long series of documentaries dedicated to the literary figures of our beautiful country, given that literature, on TV, is always sidelined and ignored.
