Sensual and captivating voice, a very catchy pop-rock that immediately captures with balanced and engaging notes. These are the strengths of "Fires," an album released in 2005. Nerina Natasha Georgina Pallot (this is her full name) is a singer-songwriter born in London in 1975 to a French father and an Indian mother. She is really talented, even if not very famous, she sings and manages very well on piano and guitar.
The first track "Everybody's Gone To War" is a rhythmic and very, very charming rock, one of the best tracks on the CD. The singer-songwriter speaks very critically about war, with clear references to the conflict the United States has been undertaking for some years. The leading song of the CD is the splendid, delicate, and dreamlike ballad "Mr. King," truly unforgettable. No song disappoints in this CD, none is a failure; however, some are truly beautiful and worthy of particular note: "Halfway Home," the mysterious and splendid piano notes of "Idaho" played by Pallot herself, the catchy and extremely sticky chorus of "All Good People," the irreverent and explicit carnal sensuality of the engaging and pressing "Geek Love" capable of rekindling the fire of passion in any listener, followed by the opposite sugary sweetness of the soft notes of "Sophia," and finally the modern and balanced rock of "Learning To Breathe."
Definitely talented in concert as well, capable of holding the stage alone, performing piano-voice and guitar-voice pieces, truly splendid live. I hope to provide with this review an inspiration and a good recommendation to those who do not know her yet, the girl makes splendid pieces, they truly deserve it.
