When MTV seemed to show signs of fatigue, for artists who lacked talent but definitely had commercial appeal, Furtado, fresh from childbirth that not only gave her a child but also two sturdy legs, in the year of our Lord 2006, released the album "Loose," containing tracks such as "All Good Things" with a carefully crafted psychological introspection seeking the infinite self and the primordial form of being juxtaposed with nature itself.
We also find "Maneater," a hit track that seems to declare "look at me, I'm Nelly, still hot enough to scorch you" indeed, because Nelly Furtado is back in shape more than before, and even more "beach girl" than before... With "Promiscuous" she seals her status as an icon of Latin sensuality, beautiful nostrils, and a soft, whispery voice... ole'.
But it is with "Say It Right" that we find an electro-lati-afro-r'n'b base with shocking power, with the voice of the ever-cheerful "black teddy bear" Timbaland appearing splendidly at certain moments with a "Nigerian vibe" voice, through which we observe the intensity of the emotion expressed, a love story that isn't progressing, and millions of copies sold, especially in the States, where the strange magical potion of Timberlake-Timbaland-Nelly Furtado really made a splash in the jet set.
"The real magic is within us"... as Paris Hilton says. Let me in, you damn neurotics!
If there were an award for the best transformation of the year, 2006 would crown her, surpassing even her majesty Madonna.
The new Nelly is sinuous moves and winks, it's trendy dancefloor music, she’s a real pop star!
"Loose" or how to kiss up to the Americans to sell more and reach the top of the charts.
We miss the times when Nelly sang "Try", but we acknowledge the new attitude.
