The Neither are the classic band that seems to have perfectly understood the lesson imparted by the new hardcore generations, where the message of protest merges with an increasingly heavy-oriented sound. In this sense, dozens of names could be mentioned, starting from the roster of a label like Facedown Records and reaching the likes of Stick To Your Guns, Parkway Drive, and The Ghost Inside to name the most famous. As Sea Shepherd activists, they have worked on what is effectively a concept album, titled “The Abyss” and focused on the marine world and those hidden aspects of the human mind. Personally, after years of new school dominance, I am always a bit skeptical of this kind of release, but in their case, it must be admitted that the emphasis placed on the lyrics tips the scales in their favor. Even though they haven't invented anything new in terms of sound, they deserve credit for having sought new solutions, especially in the guitars where djent/prog oriented passages manage to breathe new life into otherwise linear tracks. There is nothing to fault in terms of energy; Neither (active for thirteen years with a solid live curriculum) manages to convey that adrenaline typical of live shows within their tracks, which is certainly appreciated by those who regularly listen to this type of music. In conclusion, a thumbs up for this quintet, the author of a convincing and impactful work.
