THE REVIEW

"It’s better to burn out, than to fade away".
Cobain writes these words in his farewell letter.

Neil Young? Yes, I've heard of him. I listen to a track. "Sleeps With Angels". I must have this album (I would only find out later that Young, after Cobain's suicide, who took those lines from his "Hey Hey My My", and with Sleeps With Angels already ready, returned to the studio with the band to dedicate this piece to him and include it in the album.)
What can I say? Masterpiece. Emotions emotions emotions. "Raw" rock and passionate blues. Young, inspired and tormented, who writes this album on the fly.

There are glimpses of light, like in the opening "My Heart", but in a sort of descending climax, one is pervaded by melancholy, which silently comes little by little. "Driveby", pure poetry with a blues flavor. "Sleeps with angels", hits the heart, especially of an "old nirvana fan". There is definitely a different atmosphere than the rest of the album, even more furious, here there's no room for hope or melancholy, but just for a farewell. "Change your mind". The apotheosis. 14:39 of simple yet brilliant verses, never repetitive, never trivial " When you’re confused and the world has got you down, when you feel used and just can’t play the clown".

The songs are closely linked to each other, in the arrangements and especially in the lyrics, and they lead the album to almost take the form of a journey, a single great outburst of one's feelings… in which melancholy, mixed with anger, reigns supreme, and Young's guitar, inspired like never before, is ready to convey it all to us.
