There, I've used them now, and you won't see them again for the rest of the review, quite a feat for someone whose vocabulary is as thin as a festu(w)ca! (at least give me a three for the courageous act)
So, this alb. . . rec. . . darn it, it’s really an impossible mission. Let's try the typical question for readers: what sensations did you feel when, still young kids, your grandpa would put you to sleep with a fairy tale or, better yet, plucking something on the guitar? I’ll answer for you: the very same feelings evoked by listening to "Music Arcade", a simple lullaby played by strumming the strings from top to bottom, occasionally hitting a wrong key making them vibrate against the metal, just like grandpa used to do! Truth be told, grandpa didn’t have much of a voice, but with a bit of imagination. . .
All this to say that the other so. . . trac. . . AAARGH! Well, they have a completely different style, mind you. The trusty Crazy Horse give us three long, weighty electric ballads, just as they've done countless times before. "Big Time", "Loose Change", and "Slip Away" have little to envy of the more renowned "Hey Hey, My My", "Cortez The Killer", and "Cinnamon Girl", to name three (I said "little" and not "nothing," so please don’t stone me). If it were just for these three and grandpa's lullaby, the rating would be at least a four. It’s a shame the level is somewhat lowered by the remaining ones: country-rock fit for a pub, tasty but not particularly striking (nor canine), similar to the "minor" tracks on American Stars 'N Bars. I must candidly admit though that these old hippies really get me: in the '90s they woke up and continue to deliver good mu. . . GOOD OLD ROCK'N'ROLL! Not too innovative, but thoroughly enjoyable.
PHEW
Declaring my personal linguistic challenge won (whoopee!), I’ll unleash a bit in the conclusion:
if you’re looking for a 5-Star Neil Young. . . get yourself Sleeps With Angels!! Broken Arrow earns a more than respectable three and a half (rounded down to three due to circumstances beyond control).
