LA RECENSIONE

This record should have simply been called "Music."

It should have had completely different titles for the tracks it contains (except for the last one, a brilliant reinterpretation of the English/Canadian anthem, a perfect ending to this story).

The lyrics should have been entirely rewritten by the author. If all this had happened, who among you would have noticed the plagiarism (the revisiting of the pieces is, for me, so personal and original that I could easily mistake the whole thing for songs freshly written, and anyway, it couldn't be called plagiarism since popular music is, indeed, "of everyone," and therefore each one of us is free to make it our own)?

If all this had happened, we would probably all be here shouting about the miracle, the rebirth, resurrection, the never truly ending of Our Own. However, all this has not happened and will not happen, yet this is fucking clearly a Neil Young record, moreover accompanied by one of the best garage bands in the universe, and this music, even though not always inspired to the core, will always be glad to caress our ears, to make us experience a dream, an hour of beautiful or ugly emotions, loved and hated, but always true even in their "lack of originality".

“God save the queen”…and if God, in this context, is an old lonely Canadian bear, the queen is surely the music…
