What can undoubtedly be said is that "mentre tutto scorre," the previous album of the Salentino group, certainly did not shine for its originality. The songs were clearly very radio-friendly, catchy words that often recalled clichés and that taste of déjà vu.
I am not familiar with the group's previous works, but I have read the reviews and everyone agreed in affirming that they were more genuine when not guided by the major (Sugar) that had distorted the group in favor of easier songs and, above all, the easier profits that generally ensue (something that indeed happened on time). The latest work can clearly be considered a return to the origins. The refrain of the "return to origins" has been proposed for many groups, especially after disappointing works, let's think of U2 before the release of "how to dismantle an atomic bomb" or Metallica's "St. Anger," just to name a few, in general, the result has been very disappointing. However, Negramaro, compared to the mentioned groups, are young and not at "end of career."
The CD in question, "la finestra," is indeed finely crafted and is certainly much less commercial than the previous one. Among the tracks, those that most caught my attention are the open track "la distrazione" which has a chorus that easily gets stuck in your head and a good riff, "parlami d'amore" which has a decent musical base, yet the words are perhaps a bit cliché, "l'immenso" is a really beautiful song with "la finestra" and "neanche il mare" being the most successful and inspired in my opinion. There is also a noticeable duet with Jovanotti in a song "cade la pioggia" with a final rap showing a blend of genres that is very in vogue in America (in particular, the rap parts in rock/pop and rhythm and blues songs). There is no lack of ballads with very classic guitar arpeggios "un passo indietro," "una volta tanto (canzone per me)" and the choruses with slight distortion but catchy typical of the group. The drumming rhythm of part of the singing in "e ruberò la luna" is also nice.
Finally, to confirm the choice of making the work less commercial, there is also the presence of cacophonic sounds much beloved by sacred monsters like Tim Buckley, Nico, Captain Beefheart (however, I am not comparing the guys in question, they have a long way to go for a parallel worthy of such a name!) in "è così" and at the end of the CD.
In conclusion, I would like you to listen to this album without the preconceptions arising from the previous work; it is not a masterpiece, but you might find a pleasant surprise.

03 Parlami d'amore (03:19)
senza parole amore.
Parlami d’amore se
quando muore un fiore ti troverai
senza respiro amore.
Tu dimmi quante alternative vuoi
se quando parlo non mi ascolti mai,
amore…
Fra tutte, quale alternativa sei?
Amore…
senza piu parole
senza piu paure
Tu…
Parlami d’amore se
quando nasce un fiore mi troverai
senza parole amore.
Parlami d’amore se,
quando muore un fiore ti troverai
senza respiro amore.
Senza parole amore
Senza respiro amore

"The much-heralded American expedition only resulted in burdening the arrangements, leveling the sound, making the 'Negramaro style' almost carbon paper to infinitely duplicate similar note combinations."
"To the question: 'how can one replicate the success of a previous multi-platinum and multi-award-winning album?' The answer: by making one exactly the same. Obvious."

La Finestra is without any doubt a record that deserves to be listened to and will not go unnoticed in the contemporary Italian music scene.
The transformation... is instead a sign of a maturation process that brought them on the right path to express themselves at best, even in live performances.

It’s a beautiful album.
Giuliano has a great voice, which, however, live does not manage to perform at its best in certain pieces, due to the excess of emphasis that he puts into live performances.

I do not doubt that for those who appreciate the genre it may assume the connotations of excellent work, but for my ears, it is by far the worst CD within the walls of my home.
A pop not only harmless but also quite sneaky, with that shrill voice that might initially please. Not for me.
