Finland has now become one of the most important melting pots of rock bands, from metal to street glam to hard rock more generally. The Negative are one of them: six guys with a passion for hard rock. And they do it very well. The approach isn’t the most violent. After an intro of about a minute and a half, a world of 11 tracks opens up, all imbued with a distinctly melodic appeal, ranging from the lively "Frozen To Lose It All" and "Creeping Inside" to the inevitable ballads like "About My Sorrow" and "Neverending Parade".
The anomaly of this record, if we can call it that, within the glam-hard rock panorama, can be seen in the fact that the slow tracks in the album are not functional to the standard of the genre, where there are the two classic ballads, but the melody itself is the central soul of all the work around which all the tracks revolve from the faster ones to the ballads.
The presence of a keyboard player helps to create rarefied, dreamy atmospheres. Here we don’t have super fast solos, double kick drums, etc... Here, it’s the appeal that counts, the rock attitude that the six Finns certainly don’t lack. The look does the rest. But it’s not about mimicking the stylistic elements of the genre that belong to the past, but rather a fresh proposal that certainly learns from there but today, if done this way, still has a lot to say.
