The latest musical effort of the "retired" Knight of Dope, aka Neffa, titled "Alla fine della notte," released at the end of June, has been a pleasant distraction in recent days. In search of unpretentious music and parallel worlds that could refresh the scorching summer nights, this charming album has taken over my CD player and won't leave... but let's try to bring order to the uncontrolled flow of thoughts.
Good old Neffa, a guy with a background as a multi-instrumentalist and appreciated drummer in the "underground" circuit after a "brilliant" turn with the single "La mia signorina," confirms the impressions left by the leading single of the release, "Il mondo nuovo," a well-conceived mix of beat and pop with a tantalizing groove (let's say it... crowd-pleaser!!). His CD confirms that the days of "Aspettando il sole" are a distant memory: Neffa is growing and shows an extraordinary ear with melodies and rhythms that, in one case, recall brit pop between Oasis and The Veils ("Blu") and in another, even the Red Hot Chili Peppers ("Luna nuova" with an instrumental suite that not even the best Frusciante...).
The allure of brilliant Pop is, however, just around the corner as in the tracks "Tanta Luce" and "Tu non mi manchi" and "Vieni appena puoi" interspersed with episodes among the most varied: our artist effortlessly moves from the Bossa of "Che sarà sarà" to the Beatlesque pop-rock of "Cambierà" to the garage fun of "Tutto tu"!!!Confirmed, nay promoted... and in these times of Festivalbar and Music Farm, Neffa's talent lies in capturing the best of contemporary pop music and mixing it up with innate talent, and that's no small feat!! The missing star is explained by the superficiality of the lyrics in some tracks (however, clearly in the minority compared to the total of 13 tracks) but this is a secondary aspect for the goals of a Pop album... à bientôt!!!
After Neffa’s transformation from rapper to melodic singer, Neffa creates a decidedly pleasant album with a common thread of melancholy that, however, never closes the door on hope.
This album is a mix of styles that is never banal, warranting a positive review.
