An explosive mix where Grindcore, Brutal, Death, and Progressive architectures blend. Nitroglycerin 100%.
This is the essence of Epitaph, the latest album by the German band Necrophagist.
An album technically perfect, but with a hint of repetitiveness, which nonetheless does not diminish its value.
These are the names to remember:
Christian Muenzner - Guitar
Hannes Grossmann - Drums
Stefan Fimmers - Bass
Muhammed Suicmez - Guitar / Vocals
All musicians have little to envy technically from Dream Theater.
All this sonic mayhem is composed of tight and extreme growl vocals (that spit lyrics worthy of Cannibal Corpse), tight and powerful riffs, fast and extremely technical solos, a very proggy bass (the first 5 seconds of Only Ash Remains are marvelous), and a perpetual double-bass drum. The best tracks are Epitaph, Stabwound, and Only Ash Remains.
An album for those who love the violence conveyed musically (but also for violence for its own sake), for those who love technicalities and virtuosity pushed to the limit, and for those who simply want to go wild and wreck themselves (group moshing recommended after 15 beers).
One of the most technical albums I've ever had the chance to hear.
