The Profile

Nazz were an American rock band formed in Philadelphia in 1967 by Todd Rundgren (guitar), Carson Van Osten (bass), Thom Mooney (drums), and Robert "Stewkey" Antoni (vocals, keyboards). They released Nazz (1968), Nazz Nazz (1969), and Nazz III (1971, from earlier sessions), and are known for songs like Open My Eyes and Hello It’s Me.

Formed in Philadelphia in 1967; classic lineup: Todd Rundgren, Robert "Stewkey" Antoni, Thom Mooney, Carson Van Osten. Influenced by British beat and psychedelia; strong melodies and vocal harmonies. The single "Open My Eyes/Hello It’s Me" reached lower U.S. chart positions. Rundgren’s proposed double album Fungo Bat was split across Nazz Nazz and Nazz III. The group had limited commercial success and disbanded by 1969.

Philadelphia’s Nazz, featuring Todd Rundgren, blended British beat, psychedelia, and sharp pop craft across three releases. Reviewers praise melodies, vocal harmonies, and standout tracks like Open My Eyes and Hello It’s Me. Nazz Nazz is hailed as their peak, while Nazz III gathers material from the shelved Fungo Bat project. Commercial success eluded them, but the songs earn enduring respect.
