The great Napalm Death certainly need no introduction from me; for almost 20 years now, they have forged ahead with their path, proud of their sonic extremism and uncompromising attitude. However, I have always asked myself, and I believe you might have too if you know the bands that emerged from that city, what was in the air in Birmingham during the '70s/'80s?… who knows.
The album I want to talk about is the continuation of the mini-album released in 1999, which instead comes out in 2004, under the name "Leaders Not Followers: Part 2". This time, things have been done grandly; there are 19 tracks, and some absurd material has been unearthed! Napalm look back and bring up from the sewers of who knows where a series of raw gems born in the '80s, paying homage to about fifteen minor groups that broke the barriers between Hardcore and a certain type of Metal. The songs are old indeed but still fierce and brutal today, 19 wild shards that will hurt you, sweeping away much of today's productions in the Hc/Metal field.
Dynamite, highly inflammable and explosive material; I wouldn’t know how else to define these tracks that make me jump from my chair every time I press play. So here we are with tracks from Cryptic Slaughter, Hellhammer, Anticimex, Discharge, Wermacht, Die Kreuzen, Sepultura, and others. And excuse me if that’s not enough. Everything is churned in Napalm’s meat grinder, always the usual (so to speak) war machine, 19 slashes between flesh and nail…
Get it, guys, get it.
