"The official release of this album was prompted by the fact that we found anonymous bootleg tapes of the '96 Tokyo show coming from Japan, and felt that the recording captured the true uncompromising live spirit of Napalm Death."
This is written inside the CD; it is more than enough to understand the attitude, the overwhelming punch, the cynical violence of this colossal blow by the undisputed godfathers of Grindcore. The year is 1996, and it's the tour of the album Diatribes, the less challenging and also more accessible work of the English combo (accessibility to be taken with the right precautions because we are still in the presence of Napalm Death, not just pizza and figs!!!!).
There are tracks from their very first tormented LPs: the barbaric attacks of "Siege Of Power," "Suffer The Children," "The Kill," "Scum," "I Abstain," "Life?".
They remember to also pay homage to the darker episode closer to the cold industrial sound of the album Fear, Emptiness, Despair: "More Than Meets The Eye" and "Hung" played in quick succession as if they were a single indistinct, lacerating piece. Deliberately raw and dark recordings, where Mark's growl dictates the law; assisted in his guttural proclamations by Danny's inhuman and lightning-fast drumming. A wall of immense and unmatched power, erected by the cyclopean guitars played at volumes that stun the Japanese audience; the two six strings belong to Jesse Pintado and Mitch Harris. Finally, it's Shane's bass that inflicts even more, with even greater cynicism on those present at this display of strength that fears no rivals.
For the umpteenth time, I find myself "forced" to give the highest marks: seventy and over minutes is the duration of the concert. An infinite delight for those like me who grew up with these aberrant sounds.
A live experience to try (I have attended at least ten of their concerts!!!) because they are still alive and kicking after over thirty years of career: Leaders Not Followers...NAZI PUNKS FUCK OFF...
