"Fight": clash, battle.
Looking at the cover image, it immediately becomes clear that these four rough fellows are going to war; a personal war made of resounding auditory hits. They formed in Atlanta at the end of the eighties but emigrated to London where they laid the foundations for building the album. They had very, very little following; and indeed, they soon disappeared from circulation. A pity because the album is an impressive and massive crossover explosion.
Living Colour, Fishbone, Mordred are the closest references to their sound; with an added Hardcore-Thrash explosiveness halfway between Bad Brains and Anthrax's "Among The Living". They had the damn misfortune of releasing the album in 1993: a holy year for crossover, given the albums produced by Living Colour, Fishbone, and even Primus.
Naked Truth do not give a precise direction to their music; they prefer to fuse together different genres, creating a cocktail of a thousand colors. And they do it with a technical expertise that leaves one astounded: eleven engaging and compelling tracks.
The Hard Rock of the opening "The Door", even the Doom similar to Death of "Tormented World" (which in the final minute suddenly gains a deadly execution speed, with the last seconds reminiscent of Mike Patton's Mr. Bungle); "Downtown" which seems to come out of a jam session between Prince and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. "Black" that meets and marries Jazz; the furious Hardcore rage of "Third Eye Spy". A versatility with very few equals.
The endless thrill in the long "Fight" and "Red River": two tracks with a thousand variations, a thousand changes in rhythm and sound. The best way to remember Naked Truth; the band lacked nothing. They had nothing to envy from the bands I mention above; truly a mystery their NON success.
Ad Maiora.
