Born 1981. Debut novel Mamba Boy (2008). Other novels include The Orchard of Lost Souls and The Fortune Men.

The review praises Mamba Boy as a well-written coming-of-age novel following Jama's search for his father across the Horn of Africa. It situates the story in the 1930s–40s and comments on colonial contexts. The reviewer notes Mohamed's youth (born 1981) and calls Mamba Boy a promising debut.

For:Readers of literary and historical fiction; those interested in African and diasporic narratives and postcolonial history.

A child searches for his father. An unfortunate child loses his mother when he needs her the most. A twisted story, some might say. An African story, 1930s, 1940s. Egypt, Horn of Africa, even Yemen.
