Imagine five American guys who were part of the "Losers" group in high school because they were alternative, slightly ridiculous punk kids who spent their lunch breaks thinking about whom to send a demo to while the cheerleaders chirped around the jocks of the football team. There, you've visualized MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE, and to me, they seem more committed to making the right faces in front of the camera than making themselves more original.
In the video for Helena, the second single from the album Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge, which I would describe as a fairly cute goth-musical, there's Way Gerard, the singer who contorts his face beyond belief and probably gulps down kilos of honey to soothe his throat's redness after singing.

I'll be honest, I've only listened to six of the tracks on the album because they don't align with my tastes, and I couldn't download others (:-p). I can only confirm that they are not very original but rather are for the pre-adolescent crowd tired of Avril Lavigne and wanting something more edgy as the titles might suggest: Give’Em Hell Kid!, Vampires Will Never Hurt You, some black and red eyeliner around the eyes, face powder, and dark clothes, but their teeth are still baby teeth.
Certainly, they don't surprise an audience that has seen Ozzy nibble on a bat and then end up doing a format on MTV, which only reveals how much his brain has turned to mush!
Noteworthy, in my modest opinion, is the style of the videos (at least the ones they’ve done so far) and the website's graphics; as for the first point, I found both the video for the first single I’m Not Okay (I Promise) and the second one, which, as I said, looks like a musical, particularly interesting and quite enjoyable to watch, but I can't say the same about the music. Regarding the second point, I appreciated the site that feels very "Emily the Strange" but is well-crafted and also fun, as you can play with Helena in a Pacman style!

In conclusion, revisiting the initial concept, like most bands, they were born out of being outcast by American school society, and probably now they mock those cheerleaders who made fun of them. In any case, they shouldn't get too full of themselves because at concerts, while they play, no one tends to listen closely; you'd rather grab a beer.
Speaking of which, I just remembered that at Rock In Idro, My Chemical Romance will perform after Ska-p, NOFX, Millencolin and before Me First And The Gimme Gimmes... I challenge anyone not to want to take a break right during their performance!
