With emotion and pride, I announce that this is probably one of the first reviews (if not the first) in Italian of this group and their album.

I will introduce a German band, unknown to most in Italy (except for their appearance at the last two editions of the UFO Sommerfestival in Brunek): My Baby Wants To Eat Your Pussy, a project that has been going on for four years and finally materialized a few days ago (23/05/08) with the release of their debut album "Ignorance & Vision", after concerts all over Germany and a few trips to France, Italy, Hungary, and Canada, numerous awards, participation in "Rock am Ring" and a small collection of their hits released in 2005 named after the group.

Don't be scared by the name, which might suggest metal: their music (like their project) is a fusion, which is becoming very popular, between pop, electronic (just enough) and especially rock (with hints of progressive). But if we have to summarize the band in a genre, we won't refer to the sound, but to the aesthetics, the visuality: Glam Rock, a way of being that characterizes and spectacularizes their now-famous live shows, which include circus-like situations.

When I saw them, they immediately reminded me of David Bowie, Queen (similarity or ambition confirmed by the fact that the frontman and songwriter has the stage name Ziggy has ardeur), then after researching (tough job! Since there is practically no material and info in Italian, I had to find stuff in German and translate it first into English and then into Italian...) I discovered that others also think of the "patriarchs" of Glam. Actually, in my opinion, they are a band with enormous potential, but if they manage to exploit it (especially musically, since graphically and aesthetically they are very strong) they will take quite different paths from those, without excluding that they might reach those levels (it would be as legendary as miraculous...). They have intuited how to use the enormous possibilities offered by new technologies and the internet: their website, http://www.mbwteyp.com (please visit it! it's phenomenal. especially that animation on the homepage) is the clearest testimony of this. You can find images, videos (don't forget to watch Pussy MediaWorld, a kind of 360° Media all their own containing an online TV channel with more than two hours of footage, a webzine, a radio, and many blogs by their fans. The only downside: they are in German, except for a few videos subtitled in Italian...), drawings, and you will immediately understand how they use symbols, playing with them, combining them, and thus creating shapes, monsters, or living objects, all with their own meaning (I suppose...), but for now, not knowing the language, we will have to ignore. A testimony of the allegorical and interconnected meaning is given by this poster that represents the songs from the album "Ignorance & Vision" linked by labyrinthine passages and each characterized by a representation, which is always a set of symbols.

As for the music, here too they have managed to exploit innovations, but they are not the first to do so, nor are they as ingenious and creative as in the aesthetics, enhancing those five pieces ("Wonderland", "So Deep", "Biology Is A Fairytale", "Don't Tell A Soul" plus a remix of "Wonderland") with computers and synthesizers that they had already recorded for their previously mentioned first work "My Baby Wants To Eat Your Pussy". As mentioned before, they make rock with heavy influences of progressive and hard rock, electronic and scents of reggae, as in "Don't Tell A Soul". In "Boys and Girl" they remind us of the guitar techniques of Queen; "Biology Is A Fairytale" opens with a little choir of white voices that, accompanied by a piano, sings the refrain as if at a liturgical function, immediately followed by the electronic bass line. Besides these influences, it should be emphasized that they make excellent pop (a bit too much like Kaiser Chiefs, especially for the use of choruses) and that, I would bet on it, they will soon break through precisely because of this. A small "discord" which, however, concerns my tastes: the riffs are almost always sacrificed in the progressive degeneration that they take after a while, leaving no room for other experiments, perhaps electronic ones.

The group consists of, besides Ziggy has ardeur, Donni Bella Luna, a bassist of Italian origin; a very delicate and at the same time aggressive Debùsy D'eeper, second voice (in the photo on the right); the "hermaphrodite" guitarist Diva Eva D; Mr tightENG on keyboards and Ray Gattner on drums.

I apologize for two things: the excessive length of the review (knowing you...), due to the fact that this group is unknown in Italy and needed a lot of explanation; the fact that I was only able to review those few songs, which are the only ones I managed to listen to from their space. If the subject arouses interest, I can continue to document myself and do a second part of the review (maybe shorter... eh eh). The album has not been released in Italy.
