LA RECENSIONE

Muse - "The Resistance"

The new album title makes me believe in a glimmer of light that I haven't seen in several years. Exactly 10 years since I first got to know Matthew Bellamy & co.

But at the first listen, I realize that something doesn't add up. Where are the Muse from "Showbiz" and "Origin of Symmetry"???? The roughly rock band we were used to knowing, with the aggressive and powerful sound???? The guitar riffs, the commanding bass and the driving drums, the trio that made us fall in love????

In the new work, a sound of synth perhaps too present always appears in the foreground, definitely suitable for the structure of the 11 tracks of the album, which doesn't burst in forcefully and often comes with a repetitive rhythm base. After the first listens to the album, I can confirm that it's definitely an album that needs to be listened to, but it certainly doesn't penetrate the minds of those who listen to music of a certain depth. Too many forced elements in the production of the tracks (or at least I hope that's the case). An album suitable to enter the charts and that in some points doesn't lack originality, like the band, which has plenty to offer.

Awaiting in the future to find the origin of symmetry again.

Summary by Bot

The review reflects on Muse's album The Resistance as a shift from their earlier aggressive rock style to a synth-dominated sound. While the album is seen as chart-suitable and occasionally original, it lacks the intense energy and memorable riffs of previous works. The reviewer expresses hope for a return to the band's original style in future releases.

An album that surprises with the heterogeneity of arrangements and melodic and production solutions.

Muse is in good shape with an album that overall surpasses the previous one, and that, though uneven and imperfect, confirms the trio as one of the most interesting and least predictable mainstream bands around today.

Muse, freed from a fascination with the more exotic pathologies, managed to convey with renewed expressive variety.

The album closes with a three-part symphony, a cosmic epic of humanity forced into exodus and searching for a new Earth.

Muse, in the peak of their artistic maturity and now fully aware of their potential, lay down a very heavy load: the most ambitious and complex album of their fortunately still brief career.

The absolute pinnacle, the masterpiece of the album is without a doubt the dreamy utopia of 'United States Of Eurasia'… fully defined as 'Bohemian Rhapsody' of Muse.

This is an album where there are no dips in tone, the inspiration is always at its peak, the brilliance grows track by track.

The Exogenesis symphony ... is pure genius.

"It is a new work, yet you feel in the music that the previous four have left a mark. And altogether it sounds truly 'godlike.'"

"With this rock symphony, articulated in three parts, Matt Bellamy reaches a level of musical culture worthy of a maestro, straddling the rock world and the music world."
