We're not there!!. . If a Muse fan like myself feels compelled to give this new single one star, we're definitely not there! The latest release from the three Brits, "Supermassive Black Hole," hyped up on radio and television as a preview of the album "Black Holes And Revelations," has been sucked into the "black hole" of banality and the most commercial pop. If "Origin Of Symmetry" was heralded by the sublime "New Born" and "Absolution" by the excellent "Time Is Running Out," here we are faced with something entirely different. But what happened to Matthew Bellamy and company?? Lack of ideas or have they rested on their laurels of success, putting their creative style to sleep?? I don't know, I only know that this new single is not convincing at all!!. .
The track starts with an effective guitar riff with rough distortion, and up until this point, everything's fine, but when the drums kick in, everything changes: the sound is heavily electronic, and once it sneaks into the piece, it maintains a constant "beguine" rhythm until the end, which sounds like the dance version of "Besame Mucho"! But that's not all: the verse is in Matthew's classic falsetto, but less gritty and intense than usual. The chorus has one merit for sure: it immediately gets stuck in your head, but it feels overused, and personally, I find it melodically unpleasant. The track doesn't offer any further ideas except for a post-chorus with some terrible screams from Matt as background, damn it sounds like he has diarrhea!
In conclusion, I can say that my hope and the hope of those who think like me rest on listening to the other tracks of the album, which I obviously recommend "downloading" before thinking about a purchase to avoid getting screwed over for 20 euros. . Muse is a great band, but after this track, I wouldn’t want to use the imperfect tense "were". . .
