If the '90s established Seattle as the capital of grunge and Manchester as the capital of brit-pop, nothing and no one can take away from Reykjavik and Iceland in general the ownership of a style of electronic music that wonderfully blends ethereal atmospheres and precise melodies. Icelandic are also the Múm, a band that especially after the album 'Finally We Are One' dated 2002, begins to rightfully enter among the certainties of the genre. Strong signals in this direction had already been recorded with their debut a year ago with 'Yesterday Was Dramatic Today Is Ok'. It's indeed incredible how quickly you find yourself wanting to search within the booklet for the illustrious names of the latest wave of 'intelligent electronica' as soon as you insert this album into the player. See it this way: the ethereal and minimal lullabies of the Icelandic quartet seem to be generated by a supergroup in which the brilliant Aphex Twin handles the 'electro-noise' aspect, the instrumental parts are the work of the elusive Sigúr Rós, and the vocal incursions are curated by the sprite Bjork. A minimal and captivatingly nocturnal work that is a child of sophisticated influences, which rightfully places it among the pleasant surprises you don't expect.
