American jazz pianist born in Mississippi in 1955. Trained as a sideman with Art Blakey and Tony Williams, led bands (notably active as a leader circa 1985–1995) and recorded extensively; died in 2013.

Often described as a dignified craftsman of hard bop/post-bop piano; style compared to Oscar Peterson and McCoy Tyner in reviews. Trio Transition documents a 1987 Japan engagement and was released on the Japanese DIW label. Sidemen on that recording include Reggie Workman and Frederick Waits.

Mulgrew Miller is presented as a dignified hard-bop/post-bop pianist. The reviewed album Trio Transition (Japanese DIW, 1987) shows expressive maturity and pleasantness but is not praised for originality. Sidemen on the recording include Reggie Workman and Frederick Waits.
