THE REVIEW

[Many say that Mudvayne are a bad copy of Slipknot. The only difference is that Mudvayne are 100 times more technical, 100 times more alternative, and 100 times angrier. Saying that Mudvayne are like Slipknot just because of the makeup (now removed) is shameful. Especially when talking about music]

"Lost And Found" is one of the most beautiful albums ever made in music. Simply because the technique beautifully blends with the violence, leaving you speechless from the very first notes of the CD, which touch on death metal, but in a very technical way, that's why I've never judged them nu-metal (even if there is some nu, especially in the drums…), with a more concrete and in-depth analysis of the CD, you will see that you agree with me.

Determined is an example of their compositional ability and versatility in terms of music, so I would say it's a track that summarizes the whole album, death metal riffs that go hand in hand with funky (regarding the bass, I would say that Primus is the major influence), and a voice that Corey Taylor can forget! A very deep growl, transitioning from moments of rage to melody, reminding me of my dear (and unmatched) Mike Patton. Let's say that the band's matrix, in terms of guitars, pretty much refers to Death's 'Individual Through Patterns'. I believe the masterpiece of the album is Happy!, a song with incredible emotional charge, for example, the part (near the end of the song…) when piano and guitar slide through the notes of the verse:

In this hole
That is me
Left with a heart exhausted
Whats my release?
What sets me free?
Do you pull me up just to push me down again?

To say the least, moving, and when I heard it for the first time, a tear rolled down, because it is indescribable, the lyrics and the storyline are beautiful. Fall Into Sleep is quite psychedelic, with those jazz/fusion cadences, especially in the drums, which have a jazz setting. The guitars are quite comparable to those of Metallica, in fact, the impact is more or less similar to that given by One, although the length of the song is not comparable to the latter.

Forget To Remember seems more oriented towards the Deftones, and an example of this influence can be seen in the voice; it fits perfectly on the guitar style, quite powerful, and a note to consider is the bass that seems to follow the guitar more than the drums. And instead of adhering to the rhythmic base, it produces its own melody. Two other songs that deserve a lot in 'Lost And Found' are Rain. Sun. Gone and Choices, but their technique does not have an impact, more than listening to them, they should be admired.

I would conclude this review by saying that it's a pretty (in good terms… ) amorphous and poorly structured album. But it is precisely this that makes it special, and it's a characteristic that few alternative albums have.
