Rating: Germany is a land that is related to Death metal about as much as Steve Di Giorgio is to Le Vibrazioni: if we exclude Gut, Cock And Ball Torture, and Despondency (a band for which a review is coming), I don't think many other bands from this country come to mind. Yet, there they are, Mucupurulent, who, along with the aforementioned Cock And Ball Torture and Gut, represent, in Porno Gore, what Destruction, Sodom, and Kreator once were in Thrash.
The three bands I mentioned have many things in common both in terms of the themes they tackle (assorted sexual perversions) and the sound, which is essentially identical. One could even talk about German Grindgore since these bands exhibit characteristics completely different from their peers in the rest of the world.
To trace the origins of Mucupurulent, you have to go back all the way to 1995, even though their first work didn't appear until 1997. These dates are not randomly placed here, but to point out that the much more famous Cock And Ball Torture came a few years after the band in question, so it would be more appropriate to say that Cock And Ball Torture resemble Mucupurulent and not vice versa.
But on the whole, it's pointless to waste time arguing about who came first without getting anywhere; what matters is that these guys play absurd porno Grindgore based on fairly slow and cadenced tempos, heavily downtuned guitars, and a voice that makes extensive use of the Pitch Shifter (a little electronic gadget that makes the voice sound like a clogged toilet). Compared to the aforementioned compatriots, Mucupurulent have their roots in the older and stupider Grind, that of Impetigo and Repulsion, borrowing from the first a rarely idiotic vocal use (squeals and falsettos) and from the latter a particularly simple and tough riffing.
"Sicko Baby And More Babes" is not a real album, but rather a collection of almost all the material written by the three during their career published in 2006: their "successful" album titled "Sicko Baby" is re-proposed in its entirety along with a bunch of other songs (a total of forty) coming from Split, Mini CDs, and other nonsense that only Mucupurulent could pull out. I chose to review this album because it seems to me the best way to get to know this band without getting lost among the various past works but having everything at hand. It's not a band that you either love or hate; I believe this trio is liked moderately by any metalhead who gives them a listen. The driving rhythms, powerful and definitely headbang-worthy guitars, and brainless lyrics and titles ("Gay's Erection", "Pussy Berserker", "Scrotal Hernia") can only mortally amuse anyone with a "taste" for this kind of offerings. Don't expect great technique; these guys couldn't care less and are satisfied with shredding the ears of those who have followed them for years (at least that's what they hope) and to whom this collection is dedicated. Typical genre intros are not lacking; how can one not mention the accordion at the beginning of "Gay's Erection" or the female orgasm (complete with blunt sounds in the background) opening "Lacerated Tits"? Who knows how many will think all this in really bad taste, and I'll tell you, I can't blame you; but in the end, Kisseneincula©!
Have a laugh, let yourself be carried away by this ignorant music, and don't take everything too seriously. Mucupurulent jokes, and I let them joke: they are not musical geniuses, they don't play well at all, but if one doesn't quite feel like concentrating and instead wants to listen to a powerful yet unpretentious album, then "Sicko Babies And More Babes" is the album that's needed. Nonsense and filth; a fundamentally "easy" CD.
