A hardcover with a rainbow falling over the supposed heads of the band members catches my attention. Mower? Huh? Never heard of them before... intrigued by the album title (People Are Cruel) and the back of the cover, I decide to buy it instinctively, without thinking too much. I return home happy and content, convinced that I made a good purchase...
The opening track demands attention, the chorus "I Want To Sleep With You" is spot on and the song has a good rhythm.
The second track isn't bad either, but song after song the album fades, sets and doesn't rise again. Their music, a child of the 60s, is bastardized by the frequent yelling of the singer, at times annoying and at the limit of tolerance. It almost seems like they want to give a Beatles-esque twist to the weak melodies, but they don't succeed and fail.
In between some songs, there's the classic solo placed there randomly that doesn't fit at all with the sound, which lacks a well-defined identity. The voice is bad, too common, still immature, and not at all distinctive. The hidden track is the song with the most personality of all... but that's not enough.
It might appeal to some, but these British guys are not for me.
