THE REVIEW

Two Norwegian groups and a Dutch label? The idea doesn't seem particularly interesting, but on closer inspection, the two nationalities have little to do with the project.

On the one hand, Konkurrent continues with its mini album project featuring 2 groups, garnering increasing praise and quality. On the other hand, the 2 new groups involved, the Motorpsycho champions, return to exploring jazz sounds while the Jaga Jazzist's brass section is ready to accompany the Trondheim trio.

So, nothing new in the music world, but a good work with three classic jazz rock jams (above all, Theme de Yoyo) and a cover of Motorpsycho's own Pills, Powders and Passion Plays, here obviously extended and slightly more upbeat. Upon reaching the 5th song (Tristano), things get serious, and after a few minutes, a duel between a snare drum and a flute surrounded by various sound effects begins, which clarify and grow as the minutes pass until it becomes a psychedelic suite in classic Motorpsycho style as hasn't happened for some time.

A work to listen to during the morning, well-executed and with passion, confirming the qualities of Jaga Jazzist and leaving open the path to yet another change in Motorpsycho's sound. They've tried everything by now, and if the next album were of traditional Sardinian songs, I wouldn't be too surprised.
