THE REVIEW

In this work from the Belgians, compared to the past, one immediately notices a rougher sound from the drums and guitars beneath the melodic line that Motor!k’s electro-rock sound continues to deliver.

A dense guitar work embodies and unfolds a sense of imminent threat in rate+shape, which opens the album convincingly.
The intro to Driving Mode leaps forward after a countdown for a P38 shot.

And the city chase begins, the armed underworld calls and Motor!k answers.

Intake, compression, power, and exhaust—and it takes just a moment, almost intoxicating, before the drums carve out a driven post-punk rhythm and the strings enter beautifully.

A track that cleverly builds and shifts both rhythm and intensity.

In distorted and dirty noise, shadows creep in Shadows, which develops into a track that winks at smoky underground clubs, but also at those made for dancing.

A rich and intricate track, like the crash and explosion of glass shattered by a thrown stone.

Brain clicks follow in syncopation, among evocative electronic soundscapes. Syndrome comes close to EBM, but it’s mixed with a viscous dirtiness of kraut sounds from the Ancestors and persistent hints of colorful, berry-flavored guitars.

Psychedelia, which grows in intensity until it pushes the listener into a simulated, breathless run.
A punk rock drumbeat hides within the fast and swirling Departure.

After just a few seconds, everything is completely disguised and woven among hammering electronic percussion, repetitive loops, and intrusive strings.

No breathing space, the speed is high, the heartbeat rises. So does the blood pressure.
The mystical Entranced incorporates numerous post-punk elements, accompanied by a schizophrenic guitar part.

A dark conclusion to this hypnotic album, where repetition becomes mantra, and every track is constructed with sudden and surprising twists.

Motor!k here are rawer and rougher than ever, 5 is a vortex that draws the listener into a trance, wipes away all the presumed or real daily aches, and grants perfect exhilaration, just like that, without any dope. For those who choose to believe.
