Mother Love Bone was an American rock band from Seattle, fronted by singer Andrew Wood and featuring Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament. They released the EP Shine (1989) and the full-length Apple, issued posthumously in 1990 after Wood's death.

Formed in the late 1980s, core members included Andrew Wood (vocals), Stone Gossard (guitar), Jeff Ament (bass), Bruce Fairweather (guitar) and Greg Gilmore (drums). Andrew Wood died on March 19, 1990; his death led to the posthumous release of Apple in 1990. In 1990 Chris Cornell, Matt Cameron, Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament formed Temple of the Dog as a tribute to Wood, and from the remnants of Mother Love Bone Gossard and Ament went on to help form Pearl Jam.

The available review praises Mother Love Bone's sole full-length Apple, highlighting Andrew Wood's vocal performance and the band's melodic hard-rock approach distinct from other Seattle grunge acts. The review notes Apple was released posthumously in 1990 and singles out "Stardog Champion" as the album's high point. It also documents the immediate legacy: Temple of the Dog and the formation of Pearl Jam from Mother Love Bone members.

For:Fans of Seattle rock, grunge, and late-80s/early-90s alternative/hard rock

But the best song is Stardog Champion, a synthesis of the entire album: melodic and powerful at the same time, where Wood provides the best performance of the record.
