There is nothing more concerning for a band (especially a debutante or almost) than having their best piece be a cover!
In this 'Angel' by the Italian band Morgana, few will find a piece stronger and more intense than Road to Nowhere by Ozzy Osbourne (even a ballad!), which says a lot about the state of this CD.
Let's be clear, it's not a work to be discarded; Morgana are honest skilled workers of baroque metal, equipped with technique and taste, but it's truly hard to recommend buying a CD that too often overflows into sickly-sweet pop, accompanied by very clean sounds and "naive" melodies like those of the German champions of "sweet metal," Freedom Call (much better though).
The ballad that gives the album its title is "quite banal," and a ballroom-speed track like Your Recall would make even veteran artists of the more radio-friendly A.O.R. like Giuffria or Air Supply smile. The overabundance of arrangements and incursions into classical music is incredible, but there's a tinge of regret in this because, unlike other domestic productions, here you can sense unexpressed or-even-worse-suppressed potentials, hoping to cater to the tastes of a market numbed by an overdose of good feelings and neo-romantic kitsch.
Listening to just Road to Nowhere makes it clear that there is much more beneath the oppressive ashes of sonic conformity. Bringing it to light will not be an easy task...
