The Profile

Moonshake are a British experimental rock group formed in 1991 by Dave Callahan and Margaret Fiedler. Known for sampling-heavy, dub-tinged, krautrock-influenced soundscapes, they released the acclaimed debut Eva Luna in 1992 and continued through the 1990s, with Fiedler departing after early releases and the band active until 1997.

Lineup on Eva Luna: Dave Callahan (vocals, guitars, sampler), Margaret Fiedler (vocals, guitars, sampler), John Frenett (bass), Mig Moreland (drums, percussion). The British band began in 1991; Callahan had been in The Wolfhounds, and Fiedler later toured with Wire and PJ Harvey. After one more (mini-)album together, Callahan continued Moonshake without Fiedler until 1997.

A single, glowing review crowns Moonshake’s Eva Luna (1992) a masterpiece. The piece highlights the British group’s blend of krautrock polyrhythms, dub-infused sampling, post-punk/MBV-esque noise, and alternating vocals by Dave Callahan and Margaret Fiedler. Lineup details and the band’s 1991–1997 trajectory are noted, with Callahan’s Wolfhounds past and Fiedler’s later work with Wire and PJ Harvey mentioned.
