The Profile

Monumentum is an Italian dark/goth/doom project formed by Roberto Mammarella in Milan. The project’s debut full-length In Absentia Christi arrived via Misanthropy Records and blended gothic/darkwave textures with literary and Mediterranean hues; Ad Nauseam later embraced a colder electronic edge. The compilation Metastasi 1987–2004 gathers rarities and alternate versions. Mammarella founded Obscure Plasma/Avantgarde Music and was involved in the release of Mayhem’s Live in Leipzig.

Founder/leader: Roberto Mammarella (Avantgarde Music/Sound Cave; previously Obscure Plasma Records). Guest vocals on In Absentia Christi include Francesca Nicoli (Ataraxia) and Andrea Zanetti. The album features a cover of Visage’s Fade to Grey and a piece based on Giacomo Leopardi. In Absentia Christi was released by Misanthropy Records; it had been linked to Deathlike Silence prior to Euronymous’s death. Mammarella collaborated on Mayhem’s Live in Leipzig, first issued by Obscure Plasma Records.

Reviews portray Monumentum as an Italian cult project led by Roberto Mammarella, fusing gothic/darkwave, doom, and electronics. In Absentia Christi is hailed for singular originality and Mediterranean-tinged atmospheres, with notable covers and literary nods. Ad Nauseam pushes into colder electronic terrain while retaining depth. Metastasi 1987–2004 collects rarities, alternative versions, and key covers, underscoring the project’s enigmatic arc.
