THE REVIEW

"Ingrediente Novus" can be considered the artistic testament of Moltheni (at least as far as the project so named is concerned). The album was released in 2009 by "La tempesta dischi" and is accompanied by a DVD that contains clips of concerts, videos, and even a short film made and interpreted by the same artist from Marche.

Essentially, it is a sort of restyling of much of his best work composed over ten years of an extremely honorable career, a very beautiful album in which tracks like the historic "Il circuito affascinante" from "Natura in replay" acquire new life, approaching those folk sounds that have characterized Umberto Giardini alias Moltheni's latest works, compared to the decidedly pop tone of the original. Similarly, "Il bowling o il sesso" softens the tones of the version from "Fiducia nel nulla migliore" from which it comes. Among the “remade” tracks, I would also mention "Fiori di carne," which is made more "easy" than it was in the beautiful "Splendore terrore." A missed opportunity, I believe, is the remake of the splendid "Zona monumentale" entrusted to Vasco Brondi of "Le luci della centrale elettrica." There are two unreleased tracks: "Petalo" and "Per carità di stato" (a dramatic denunciation of the political and cultural degradation of our country). All tracks are rearranged accordingly, except for those taken from "L'età del corallo," his last album, which are left intact.

Be careful, listening to "Ingrediente Novus" gives the impression of a linear album with songs born and conceived for a "regular" album, so to speak, which turns out to be (and here I must reiterate), very beautiful, confirming the absolute value of an extremely underrated songwriter (also due to an extremely proud character that has influenced his career). However, attention is needed as this album is not a "the best of" as it will certainly be understood; it is not possible, in fact, to ignore also (or especially) the original versions. Ten years of music cannot simply be rearranged, and the view on Moltheni must inevitably expand to the beginnings and then delve through the defects, changes, and sufferings of an artist whom I sincerely hope can give us many more moments of great music under other pseudonyms, projects, or as he wishes ...

Moltheni

Moltheni is the stage name of Italian singer-songwriter Umberto Giardini. Active since the late 1990s, he emerged with Natura in replay and became a reference in Italy’s indie/alt scene through albums like Fiducia nel nulla migliore, Splendore terrore, Toilette memoria and I segreti del corallo. After closing the Moltheni chapter around 2010 and recording as Umberto Maria Giardini, he revived Moltheni with Senza Eredità in 2020.
