"Young Team" is undoubtedly a classic of indie rock. The debut of Mogwai, a Scottish band formed in '96 with the intention of creating "serious guitar music," is, indeed, a concentrate of energy and ethereal purity in 10 tracks for 74 minutes of splendid music...

So, what kind of music do Mogwai make? It ranges from indie-rock filled with feedback and distortions (Sonic Youth, My Bloody Valentine...) to moments of ethereal and suspended post-rock (strong influence from GYBE), and "Young Team" is the undisputed manifesto of this even today. Tracks like "Yes! I Am A Long Way From Home," "Like Herod," or the closing and wonderful "Mogwai Fear Satan" indeed seal a wonderful album, a milestone of alternative rock and beyond, which has consecrated Mogwai into legend. Even if the subsequent albums did not reach the level of "Young Team," it doesn't matter much: Mogwai have given a record to history.

And this is enough for us...

If Slint invented post-rock, Mogwai revolutionized it.

Once 'Mogwai Fear Satan' begins, it will be hard to abandon it.
