THE REVIEW

"Enchantment" is the right term to define this album and the music of Mogwai. Listening to "Come On Die Young," indeed, is like falling victim to a spell or a hypnosis of which only the amazing Scottish band knows the alchemy.

Their instrumental post-noise-rock (what a definition!) cradles the listener between the waves of a cold and welcoming sea at the same time, where it is easy to get lost and found, between moments of absolute calm and unstoppable agitation...
But let's get back to the album in question: "Come On Die Young" is Mogwai's third album, also counting "Young Rapid," a collection of "early material" recorded between '96 and '97, and it certainly confirms the expectations created by the Glasgow group after the beautiful "Young Team". 12 perfect tracks, where nothing can truly be discarded, from the initial introduction of "Punk Rock" to the beautiful "Cody," passing through "Kappa," "Oh! How The Dogs Stack Up," up to the real masterpiece of the album: "Ex-Cowboy," 9 thrilling minutes, where the piercing noise of the distorted guitars is followed by a liberating and exciting catharsis, truly anthological... In short, Mogwai has done it, besides matching the beauty of "Young Team" with "Come On Die Young," they seem to go even further, perfecting even more their unique and inimitable sound, which has made them one of the best bands of the second half of the '90s.

I recommend everyone to purchase this extraordinary album, to listen to it over and over again, until the 67 minutes of the album seem like a moment or an eternity, an indescribable emotion, a spell you will fall victim to without realizing it, slowly, only to awaken changed in this world. And it will be then that you will restart the CD...

Cody is also a sweet act of love towards music, a profound act of love that seals the alliance between man and music.

The guitars seem to have a soul of their own and seem to communicate something, something that, however, will be completed by the following track.
