"Surfin' M.O.D." 'the soundtrack without the movie', there couldn't have been a better start given the cover of a great intro in the style of a Spielberg shark attack; Billy Milano and the gang know how to play their part perfectly when they want to have fun.

Dressed as perfect surfers from the Californian coast, M.O.D. fiercely play beach rock music with a nice touch of zaniness.

When thinking of California, sand, waves, and rock, perhaps the Beach Boys come to mind? Of course, in fact, "Surfin' USA" is the first cover of the album, sung perfectly and infused with Ramones style featuring powerful electric guitars and whimsical guitar solos. Later, song after song, it starts to take on a bit of a rougher edge with tracks in old MOD style like "Party Animal" preceded by equally good songs like "Mr. Oofus" or "Sargent Drexell Theme".

Everything loses the slightest bit of serious dignity when it comes to "Color My World" sung intentionally in a "shower and soap opera" style, included in the album solely to make us laugh at it. This work concludes in the best way with the cover "Shout" reimagined, but not weighed down by metal drums and guitars.

What to say about Surfin' MOD... It is absolutely unnecessary to have it! Yes, it makes you laugh, yes, there are a couple of good songs, yes it's well played, yes OK! But spending money to hear a tubby guy and his famous friends having fun because they have no good ideas left, trying to attract the audience with an album made just for the sake of it (except for two songs), is not something to recommend to anyone.

If you truly love that style that the Ramones had years ago with a bit of originality, revisiting beach classics, then run and buy this lovely album of 6 measly songs.
