This single hasn't hit the stores yet; it will be released on 29.04 and the new album, titled "18", will follow on 13.05.
We finally watched the video about twenty times on moby.com. The curiosity was high after the multi-selling "Play".
Will the Christian/vegan/straight-edge/New Yorker manage to surprise us again?
This is a perfect single; Moby chooses to sing himself, with his weak, inadequate voice, which always reminds me of Ian Curtis's inadequacy from Joy Division (listen to the cover of "New Dawn Fades" by Joy Division done by Moby some time ago, seen on the back of "Feeling So Real") on a 4/4 beat.
"Growing in numbers, growing in peace, can't fight the future, can't fight what I see..." with the masterpiece of a continuous guitar riff the same throughout the song (just to be clear, à la Bowie's "Heroes", but clearer, without effects)
"People they come together, people they fall apart, no-one can stop us now, 'cos we are all made of stars...".
A disenchanted and resigned look at life, but somehow positive.
"Efforts of lovers, left in my mind"
In the video where Moby, dressed as an astronaut, walks through the streets of L.A., some guest stars appear, including the two most trashy: Ron Jeremy, legendary porn star, while photocopying a hand (sic!), and Toxic Avenger, protagonist of a trashy horror movie.
We also recognize Tommy Lee, ex of Pam Anderson, alone in a table-dancing ("...people they fall apart").
"...'cos we are all made of stars...".
Or whatever else he meant to say. Great.
