Oh dear, oh dear! Running out of creativity, huh? The ideas are starting to run low, aren’t they??
First of all, I like Moby, especially since I saw him "fencing" naked with Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers on stage at the Filaforum, but when it comes to analyzing his latest work, I neither give it a thumbs up nor a thumbs down.
Maybe that's the worst part.
While with "Play" Moby had marked the beginning of a new era, surpassing Fatboy Slim, who arrived a bit "tired" at the finish line, with "18" there's a sort of ideal continuation on the same plane. Except for the legendary "We Are All Made of Stars" (already reviewed and praised by us), the album mirrors the previous effort so much that on a superficial listen, it's hard to distinguish the two.
The album starts after the aforementioned single with a ballad, "In this world," like the soundtrack of "The Beach." "Signs of Love" has a rhythm that reminds me of Beck's "Loser," a truly engaging song.
Among the best, I would mention "Another Woman," "Extreme Ways," "Harbour," and "I'm Not Worried At All."
Let's not be surprised if in every bar where we go for an aperitif, this album will be playing, if it spreads in commercials and "Original Soundtrack Of..." if we hear these tracks over the images of the goals of the next football World Cup.
I can't give it more than 3 points, of which 1 is for my liking of the artist.
