For those who love reading not just for distraction, but to also take something home, here's the book titled "The Star of Geq", published by LFA Publisher. The novel by Mimmo Parisi was released on May 16 and has been available in stores for a few days now. Readers passionate about profound stories will not be disappointed by the plot of this new work.
The author, with a wealth of published works, including "Racconti di periferia," "Sono tornati i Braccialetti rossi," "Il figlio del drago," and "Ti voglio bene come nei film," entrusts the protagonist role to a character, Geq, who uses all his courage to free himself from a lazy and adverse fate. Geq, in fact, puts all his enormous tenacity into securing his place in the world.
"The Star of Geq" essentially tells the story of an individual's vindication against society and nature itself. There are strong echoes, therefore, of the "stepmother nature" of Leopardian memory, which envisions a system of opposition between man and mechanical nature, ready to disregard the fate of those who are nothing more to her than a creature among creatures and nothing more.
The plot of the novel unfolds in the Apulian land. Here, in a small town equipped with a hospital with an attached gynecology department, works Doctor Scudi. He is particularly dedicated to his work, to the extent that he feels it as a mission. Unfortunately, this characteristic of his has painful repercussions for his psyche: if he fails to find solutions to the cases presented to him, he feels an intolerable frustration. The fact is that, in his great-heartedness, the professional does not limit himself to practicing his work with all the honesty and competence possible: when he realizes that a family or a single mother absolutely cannot afford to provide the child in question with minimal food or shelter support, his solution is simply to adopt the unfortunate little ones. It goes without saying that, as happens to the protagonist of the novel, when misfortune is not only called poverty but also disability, the doctor's work will go beyond normal care.
