Rating: There are SPOILERS if you read, it's your fault. If you haven't even seen it, what the hell are you living for?
It's been a few years now that I've decided this is the best movie of all.
You know the story, McMurphy is in jail but acts crazy (well, he was a bit crazy but not really really, he was for the society he lived in which isn't so different from today's).
So, he acts crazy to avoid jail, he was in a prison labor camp breaking his back... better to pass for crazy, right? What's the harm in staying a bit in the asylum among the crazies?
Except McMurphy is an anarchist who does whatever the hell he wants, he enjoys being in the midst of the crazies, creates chaos, argues with them, mocks them, plays cards, gets mad.
The director doesn't like this at all. It's already a mess managing the crazies who laugh, cry, scream, drool, and sometimes, how to say it? Go crazy! ...this smartass with the black beanie like Lucio Dalla was just missing, but he's cooler though.
And he realizes that by causing trouble he creates problems, but he enjoys it, it's stronger than him, he thinks he's the smartest of them all.
Except eventually, McMurphy ends up getting attached to the crazies, you know how it is, crazies are good people.
I've seen it many times, then one day I watched it in the original language and when you hear the original voice of the director you realize she's not that much of a jerk as the Italian dubbing wants you to believe, and so the movie changes and really becomes what it is. I understood better that McMurphy was quite a pain, I mean, yes, I've always rooted for him (how can you root for that frigid b****?) even in the original version, but... but it makes you understand the situation better and so when I watched it in O.V. I liked it even more.
No movie has made me cry three times for three different reasons:
JOY: when he takes them fishing with the minibus
EMOTION: when the b**** turns off the TV on him and he simulates the commentary of the game in front of the black screen
PAIN: when the Indian holds him to his chest and then does what he has to do
so as you've probably understood, I'm not going to tell you what this film is, who made it, who stars in, how it's regarded because you already know.
and the ending? have you ever seen a more beautiful ending? with more beautiful music? with the Indian lifting the sink and breaking the window and a crazy guy screaming because he thinks McMurphy has escaped?

I couldn’t figure out if I was more on the side of the patients or the doctors.
The better an actor is, the less you notice they are acting. And in this film, I can’t think of actors who didn’t genuinely seem crazy, or doctors, or whatever else they were portraying.
