The Profile

Milli Vanilli were a German-French pop/dance duo fronted by Rob Pilatus and Fab Morvan, created by producer Frank Farian. They achieved global success in 1988–1990 before a high-profile lip-sync scandal led to their Grammy for Best New Artist being revoked. A planned 1998 comeback album remained unreleased following Pilatus’s death; Morvan later pursued a solo career.

Duo members: Rob Pilatus and Fabrice Morvan; formed in Munich under producer Frank Farian; major late-80s hits; exposed for lip-syncing after a backing track malfunction; Grammy for Best New Artist revoked; attempted 1998 comeback (‘Back & In Attack’) unreleased due to Pilatus’s death; Morvan continued solo.

A single DeBaser review focuses on the lip-sync scandal surrounding Girl You Know It’s True, the Grammy win and return, and the fallout engineered by producer Frank Farian. It recalls the exposure during a skipping-track performance, the short-lived Rob & Fab project, and the unreleased comeback album after Pilatus’s death. Morvan’s later, contrite solo path gets a nod.
