Young Miles has grown up, he is no longer the English lad dreaming of becoming a great frontman while watching Oasis concerts at Maine Road on TV. And while his compositional potential was already glimpsed with his debut album, "Colour Of The Trap," written together with his friend Alex Turner, it is in this sophomore effort that he fully reveals himself to the audience and critics who have been following him with attention and hope since his beginnings with the Rascals, through the acclaimed side project of the Last Shadow Puppets.

"Don't Forget Who You Are" is a timeless classic British-style album but more mature, convincing, and with a more driving rhythm compared to its predecessor. And if the voice still owes a debt to Lennon and Liam Gallagher (listen to the beautiful title track or "Tonight"), the compositional references are clear from Ray Davies to Noel Gallagher to Paul Weller (it is indeed the modfather who features as a special guest on the album, playing the piano in the acoustic "Fire In My Heart," a track he co-wrote, and lending his voice in the rousing "You're Gonna Get It"). Likewise, one cannot ignore the influence of Richard Ashcroft in the most beautiful track of the bunch, the ballad "Out Of Control."

If Miles Kane will become the hero of the new English beat generation, as NME claims, is yet to be discovered. The hair is there, the attitude too, almost the songs.

Key tracks: "Taking Over," "Don't Forget Who You Are," "Out Of Control," "Give Up."
