The Miles Away, hailing from Perth, Australia, have always emphasized that they don't want to be just one of the many bands in the universe of modern Hardcore that constantly rely on the same old worn-out clichés. In this over-saturated scene where thousands of bands are counted, standing out from the crowd and appearing original and different is not an easy feat, especially for those who avoid letting their Hardcore path be contaminated by experiments or influences from other musical genres, just as Miles Away have chosen to do. The five Australians have always strived to stay true to the "new school" HC line without straying beyond the genre's canonical borders, finding themselves facing a significant challenge given their desire to remain an interesting and recognizable band despite the thick competition.

Coming to the record: after some well-executed LPs and EPs, Miles Away managed to release in July 2010 this "Memory Embraced," containing four tracks, three years since the group's last release. And what have our guys been up to during these three years? Listening to this record, I'd say they've truly honed their skills, attentively developing every little detail of the double summer release of 2010, a period that saw them release "Memory Embraced," as already mentioned, but also the album "Endless Roads." In my opinion, it's precisely thanks to these two recent releases that the Perth five have made a significant leap forward: the sound proposed starting from the EP "Memory Embraced" is better orchestrated compared to previous releases, and overall, the band seems more mature and attentive to details; they are now able to create a more muscular and powerful sound, increasingly relying on their main strength, which is Cavechest's vocals, warm and angry just at the right point.

Starting from this EP, the Australian band seems to be embarking on a path that could lead them very high and that, above all, truly brings them closer to achieving their goal of appearing as a recognizable and leading group among many in the scene. "Rain Eyes" is the gem of the record, a song in which Miles Away also manage to insert a more melodically guitaristic part that doesn’t miss a beat in terms of fury and power. The other three tracks, "Ghostwriter", "...So I Guess This Means I'm Out Of The Book Club", and "Nowhere Else" are equally beautiful and well-played, leading the listener, after just a couple of listens, to admit that Miles Away have already convinced them to follow, or rather, accompany them on their personal journey towards the heights of modern Hardcore.

So dust off the motto "Stay true" and hurry up to crank that damn volume up, because in Australia, there aren’t only blond surfers, sharks, and AC/DC, but also a Hardcore scene made of heart&sweat that is growing and whose diamond tip could precisely be represented by these Miles Away.
