THE REVIEW

The story of this incredible artist is succinctly described in the liner notes, following the classic style of Tzadik, the label of the incomparable John Zorn. A boy like any other, one day he wants to be declared "dead." Committed for mental illness, then released, his passion for the violin leads him to create this extraordinary debut.
I fear that by now he has already committed suicide a couple of times; at best, this will be his first and last album.

A blow to contemporaneity, the violin is ravished and turned into a diabolic instrument that clings to your guts and pulls out even what you thought you had removed. Noise art that would make the number 1 self-referentialist in the world, Merzbow, pale; original to say the least, to be taken in small doses like magical drops.
Recommended: for those afraid of normality. Not recommended: for those who believe the violin should be played with medieval wigs.

Summary by Bot

Mike Pathos' debut album 'People' showcases a unique and intense use of the violin, transforming it into a raw, visceral noise art instrument. The album is deeply personal, influenced by Pathos' mental health struggles, and aligns with the experimental spirit of the Tzadik label. Compared favorably against noise artists like Merzbow, it is recommended for avant-garde and experimental music lovers. The album is a challenging but rewarding experience.
