Getting lost in the silences of a winter wrapped in fog, in days that seem to never pass. And gazing at the sky, thinking of that God who does not manifest. The wind carries the cries of the soul, while reality gradually breaks our wings and time cradles us, crying in its embrace. The cruel night arrives, accompanied by rain to conceal our tears. The mind seeks a way to escape our inner desert. Our path is solitary, yet sometimes we feel the need to share something with someone. There are moments when this someone can be a good reason to continue hoping.

Introspective lyrics and imaginative music. As the title of this album, "Soulinside," suggests, Midian takes us on a journey inside the man and his multiple states of mind. Their music is a sort of progressive hard rock, enriched by an intelligent use of the violin, with inspired solos and phrasings with the guitars. Songs with a consumable structure, yet living through time changes and accelerations typical of prog. A guitar play that combines heavy and linear rhythms with nervous and dissonant solos, as if to mix Queensryche with King Crimson. The singing, often with two voices, creates a particular sound blend and sophisticated melodic lines. The result is a personal and recognizable sound.

Midian is a band from Arezzo formed in the early nineties, and this album, released in 1994 by the small record label Pick Up Records, is the only one of their brief career. A small and little-known gem that had aroused some interest from industry critics. The work alternates between progressive-inspired tracks (the beautiful "Wind" and the opener "In my winter") and tougher ones ("Poem", "The road"), while also including interesting instrumentals ("Inside" and the unpronounceable track number six). But there are no weak pieces, and the songs are all interesting and characterized by a refined melodic taste.

Probably an impossible feat, but I would like in my small way to help this album not get lost in the mists of time.
