As soon as I listened to Mico Argirò's album "Tra le rose e il cielo", I immediately thought I had to say something about it. So, while waiting for the promised phone interview, I'm writing a review of the album and this artist's work on this site.
"Tra le rose e il cielo" is a truly interesting, deep and unconventional album, committed yet also delicate. Mico Argirò is a young artist with great talents: his non-canonical voice (which reminds me a lot of Capossela, Battiato...) far from the homogenizing Pop intonation, his Folk way of playing the guitar, the strong expressive charge (which in my opinion is his strength), and the depth of the lyrics and music immediately made me interested in this character. I liked all six songs on the album, songs with committed themes, deep and intimate songs, songs experimentally recorded, the result of the work of Mico Argirò and his Band.
I have read a lot about this young artist in interviews, articles, and web radio and I must say that the image conveyed is that of a twenty-year-old who is already a true artist, an intellectual devoted to Good Music, to the creation of an Art that, after the death of Fabrizio De André, has somewhat disintegrated.
One truly noteworthy thing, which impressed me a lot, is that Argirò and his Band have given up all the earnings from the album to commit to a charitable cause in the African continent: all the earnings will be transformed into vaccines or other useful materials. An initiative that makes us understand the great potential of these young people, the potential of dreamers, the unconventional ones, those who can look beyond the small realities, and those who know how to be useful to others.
Mico Argirò is a true Artist, who will surely go far, my most sincere compliments to him for all his successes (from MySpace views to YouTube to the FanClub on Facebook)
Thank you and Long live Good Music.
