Mickey & Ludella: two lovers of vibrant and fresh sounds. They released only one album and then disappeared into thin air.
It was 1996, and the audience had not yet recovered from the hangover caused by the likes of Green Day, Rancid, and Offspring.
Mickey & Ludella also loved punk, but not the mainstream chart-topping kind, nor the underground (hardcore, straight edge, oi!, and so on).
No, these two loved the pop punk of the Buzzcocks, the rock 'n' roll of bands like the New York Dolls, and the doo-wop cherished by the Ronettes. Less aggressive than the Dolls, Mickey & Ludella offer us a respectable 15 garage-pop-punk gems.
Listening to this "Bedlam a Go Go," you can feel the air of the '60s and '70s.
In short: a record that, in its simplicity, sounded and still sounds like a genuine "screw you" directed at all the musical trends of the last decade of the 20th century.
There are also some famous covers... but I'll leave you the honor of discovering them.
Honest, cheeky, catchy, and proudly "out."
The only flaw: it is hard to find.
